WELCOME SPEECH BY RICHARD AMETEKU, LEAD FOR FRIENDS FOR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION AND DEVELOPMENT (FEFoD) ON THE OCCASION OF THE LAUNCHING OF THE SECOND EDITION OF THE DISTRICT ANNUAL QUIZ COMPETITION HELD AT AVE DZADZEPE E.P CHURCH ON 3RD MARCH, 2023

Torgbui Chairman and the Supporting Chairpersons, the District Director of Education, Torgbui, Mamawo, Headteachers and Teachers, Quiz Secretaries, Students, Ladies and  Gentlemen, I am privileged to be called upon to deliver a welcome address on this special occasion.

Torgbui Chairman, I want to use this opportunity to express my sincerest gratitude to the District Director of Education for his immense support for the last year's contest. We are grateful to the Hon. Member of Parliament and the District Chief Executive for their support. We are also grateful to Mr. Raphael Kwaku Dzimabi who has been supporting us financially, physically and spiritually. We grateful to headteachers and the quiz secretaries for their commitments towards the success of last year's event.

Torgbui Chairman, data gathered by FEFoD indicates that seventy-seven (77) students who contested at the circuit level, seventy-two (72) representing 92.5% who sat for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) scored between aggregate 6-30. Meanwhile, sixteen (16) students who contested at the semi-final and final stages of the competition and sat for the BECE scored between aggregate 6-30 representing 100%. It should be noted, however, that thirteen (13) students who contested at the circuit level were either in Form two or Form one. With all these successes for the previous year, we can boldly say that the program for that matter, the contest has been a success. We want to urge the headteachers and the quiz secretaries to form the quiz clubs in their schools so that the revisions will not be limited to just a few but majority.

Torgbui Chairman and the supporting Chairpersons, we have taken recommendations from various stakeholders and have decided to expand this year's contest to quarter finals and semi-final. We hope this will bring in more competitions and will involve more people at those levels. We have decided to increase the winning bonuses for each of the positions for the final contest.

Torgbui Chairman, for effective running of the activities of our group, we need to be financially sound. We are, however, faced with financial challenges and will like to appeal to individuals and benevolent organizations to sponsor our activities for the sustenance of the yearly event. I will urge all of us to come on board to support this activity in our small way so that we can enhance the competition of teaching and learning in our various schools.

Torgbui Chairman, all protocols observed, you are all welcome to this year's launching. Thank you.
