General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) says teachers were mindful of the contemporary financial crisis, which is why they settled for a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) instead of a wage opener clause.
Speaking in an interview on Top Story on Monday, he explained that the wage opener clause offers that “at any point in time when the financial scenario of our members is dire we can name for it.”
He brought that the salary opener clause, while opted for, will imply authorities have to pay Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) advantages and all of the related remuneration items that include the normal income.
“But we didn’t opt for that, we opted for a easy one that is the Cost of Living Allowance at 20 percentage – just cushioning workers specially instructors so in 2023 we can negotiate for base pay,” Mr. Musah said
