The National Identification Authority (NIA) has dismissed the assertion circulating on social media that some Ghana Cards were left to ‘rot’ on the Sowotuom Office.


In a announcement, the Authority defined that the said playing cards are 2D-barcode cards which have been printed between 2008 and 2014 however were never issued to Ghanaians.


According to NIA, the abandoned playing cards had been audited and were watching for destruction.


“The playing cards had been audited by way of an NIA Board of Survey and handed for destruction as they've outlived their 10-12 months existence span and can't be used for any lawful purpose.

“Stored in “Ghana-Must-Go’ baggage, the cards were moved from garage to create area pending their destruction because the MA Headquarters Building undergoes refurbishment.



“The playing cards had been included with a tarpaulin to the NIA Headquarters premises looking ahead to shredding but a person removed the cover, made a video and shared it on social media,” components of the statement examine.
