In a declaration, the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has said there has been a number of of things to now not meeting its original March 31 cut-off date, a key one being people haven't begun to gain their country wide identification cards.


The SIM registration order began on October 1 closing 12 months but as of March 17 most effective 14 million SIM cards were related to Ghana Cards, and over 7.Five million residents have yet to obtain their ID playing cards. The cut-off date has been prolonged to July 31.


“It is obvious that the closing date for completion of the registration of the closing lively SIM playing cards can't be met,” stated minister of communications Ursula Owusu-Ekulful.


The processing for ID cards has been reportedly slow with a few citizens expecting hours in line to manner their details. More time is also required to facilitate diplomats and citizens which are abroad.


“We commend all Ghanaians and overseas residents in Ghana for their support in ensuring that thru this exercising, we expand and build a reputable SIM database with integrity, that allows you to assist deal with problems of cyber fraud and sell comfortable SIM Card based totally transactions as a part of our efforts to digitally rework the economic system, stated Owusu-Ekulful.


Ghana's decision to implement a countrywide ID card scheme has visible pushback from residents worried with records privacy.
